Thaden Field Airport

Earth Work Underground Utilities on an Active Airfield

Sy-Con Excavation & Utilities was proud to take on a unique project at Thaden Field, a fully operational airport in Bentonville, Arkansas. This job called for more than just technical expertise—it demanded adaptability, precision, and strict adherence to FAA specifications from start to finish.

Project Scope

  • Public water main extensions

  • Storm drainage

  • Trickle channels

  • Export of 52,000 cubic yards off of the site

  • Public sewer wain extensions

  • Asphalt of taxiway B

  • Asphalt of access roads 1 & 2

  • 3 phase underground electrical upgrade

Flexibility in Action

Working on an active airport meant abandoning many of our standard operating procedures. From equipment staging to communication protocols, every aspect of the project had to be adjusted to meet FAA regulations and ensure airport operations continued uninterrupted.

Our team demonstrated exceptional flexibility and project management, modifying workflows on the fly, coordinating around live air traffic, and maintaining safety without sacrificing productivity.

The Result

Despite the complexity and regulatory oversight, we safely completed the project on-time and within scope - delivering critical infrastructure upgrades while keeping the airfield fully operational.
